Many exhaust manifolds have a pre-converter or catalytic converter that bolts to the manifold. It is against the law for a salvage yard to sell a converter so if yours is bad don’t expect to get this part. You have to buy rebuilt or new. Its a good question to ask your mechanic and the company you are dealing with.
When installing an exhaust manifold if it’s equipped with an O2 sensor verify that. If it has a gasket, replace it. If the EM is equipped with studs for the down pipe (Y-pipe) verify these are in good shape. If not, replace them.
If it has a pre-converter have your exhaust checked periodically according to your owners manual.
